Rockascene is dead. Long live the scene!

Na meer dan vier jaar en bijna 7000 posts heb ik besloten dat Rockascene maar eens met een 'indefinite hiatus' moet, zoals enkele bands dat de afgelopen jaren gebruikten in tijden van afscheid.
Rockascene was bedoeld als éénjarig projectje om een beetje te bloggen over bands die ik zelf leuk vond, maar schoot daarna verder en nu is het alweer vier jaar later.

Bedankt voor het volgen en lezen van deze blog. Ik had nooit verwacht dat een paar duizend man uit Nederland en België geïnteresseerd zouden zijn in een simpele blog als deze.

Blijf goede bands steunen. Koop hun muziek als je ze goed vindt. En hoewel ze nooit een groot aandeel hebben gehad op deze site; steun je lokale bands. Bezoek hun concerten, koop hun demos. En uiteraard... spread the word!

Tom Araya in ziekenhuis vanwege duizeligheid

Afgelopen weekend was op Rockascene te lezen dat Tom Araya van Slayer in het ziekenhuis was opgenomen waardoor een show in Australië afgezegd diende te worden. Sandra Araya, de vrouw van Tom, heeft via facebook laten weten dat Tom "was suffering from vertigo due to extreme dehydration and lack of rest," en dat "Our doctor is in the process of getting the results on the test that were ran (major time zone difference and being the weekend has held up those results). Hopefully there will be nothing more to add after the results are returned."

Blindside details en trailer nieuw album

Blindside heeft de onderstaande trailer gepost voor het nieuwe album dat "With shivering hearts we wait" zal gaan heten. Over data van de release maakte de band het volgende bekend via Facebook:

Marilyn Manson laat biografie schrijven

Marilyn Manson zal dit jaar een biografie over zijn leven laten schrijven. Daarvoor heeft hij de journalist Erin Broadley gekozen. Broadley schreef al eerder enkele artikelen over Manson in L.A. Weekly, maar heeft nog nooit eerder een boek geschreven.

Marilyn Manson is momenteel ook bezig met de opnames van een nieuw studio album, welke later dit jaar uit zal komen.

Gojira bevestigt zomerfestivaldata

Oceansize heeft via de Facebook van de band laten weten er mee te stoppen:

Alkaline Trio 'stripping down' eigen nummers op aankomende release

Alkaline Trio bestaat 15 jaar en daarom is de band deze maand in de studio te vinden voor het opnieuw opnemen van enkele nummers uit hun catalogus voor een release deze zomer. Epitaph Records, het label dat het album uit zal brengen, meldt het volgende over de release:

"The threesome will be stripping down fan favorites from their coveted seven studio albums, which include Goddamnit, Maybe I'll Catch Fire, From Here to Infirmary, Good Mourning, Crimson, Agony & Irony and This Addiction, and re-recording the songs under new visions with the accompaniment of a variety of instruments at Hurley Studios in Costa Mesa, California. Additionally, the band will tantalize fans with new tracks as well, making this a must have for both old and new fans alike."

Machine Head's 'The burning red' zilver in UK

Twaalf jaar na het uitbrengen van "The Burning Red" heeft het Machine Head album de zilveren status weten te halen in de UK door 60.000 stuks te verkopen. Dit heeft de British Phonographic Industry eergisteren bekend gemaakt.

Tom Araya opgenomen in ziekenhuis

Tom Araya van Slayer is in het ziekenhuis opgenomen in Australië. De band zou vandaag een show spelen, maar deze gaat niet door. Araya zal ook een nacht in het ziekenhuis moeten doorbrengen. Wat er precies gaande is, is nog niet bekend gemaakt.

Nieuwe track The Monolith Deathcult

De Nederlandse formatie The Monolith Deathcult heeft de nieuwe track "Aslimu!!! - All Slain Those Who Brought Down Our Highly Respected Symbols To The Lower Status Of The Barren Earth" online gezet.

Gitarist/vocalist Michiel Dekker: "The lyrical theme of this track is mainly based on Lawrence Wright's book 'The Looming Tower'. Besides that I was inspired by the Dua-e-Sanam-e-Quraish curse and the events around the Muslim Brotherhood.

"This is a rare track which we recorded to let the people know what we are doing.

"Writing a THE MONOLITH DEATHCULT song costs a lot of time, because of all the lyrical research and musical fine-tuning. There is a huge change that the final album track will be totally different from this one, but that is how we work.

"The lyrics of this song were written during the summer/autumn of 2010 and vocals were recorded in the X-mass holiday of the same year. To our surprise, the subject became extremely relevant because of the turmoil in the Middle East region. Everybody who watched the speech of the Libyan Bedouin tent revolutionary on Al-Jazeera will understand that we MUST write a track about Muammar Gaddafi."

Via deze link is een 6,5 minuten durend deel van een nieuwe track van Between The Buried And Me te streamen. Het nummer heet "Specular reflection" en is afkomstig van de nieuwe EP "The Parallax: hypersleep dialogues". De EP komt 12 april uit via Metal Blade.

Video live debuut A Pale Horse Named Death

Afgelopen week speelde A Pale Horse Named Death eindelijk een eerste live show, namelijk in Sayreville, New Jersey. De band met Sal Abruscato, die drumde op albums van Type O Negative en Life Of Agony, heeft al een geheel album klaar, welke al geruime tijd te stream (en te bestellen) is via de website van de band.

Coffins tekent bij Relapse

De Japanse band Coffins heeft een deal getekend bij Relapse Records. De band is momenteel bezig met het schrijven van materiaal voor een vierde full-length, welke later dit jaar opgenomen zal worden. De band, die dit jaar 15 jaar bestaat, zal in april voor het eerst door Europa gaan touren.

Vocalisten Atreyu en Bleeding Through in nieuw project

Drummer verlaat Marilyn Manson

Drummer Ginger Fish heeft beslote Marilyn Manson te verlaten.

“After much deliberation and constant reflection of where my life has been and where it could or should be heading, I am regretful to inform the general population, and the fans, that I have decided to step down as a member of Marilyn Manson and see where my life, and the knowledge of my availability cares to take me.

I can’t stand by to watch opportunities pass me by simply because the knowledge of my availability wasn’t clearly expressed by me. I wish my brothers well, and I expect nothing but great things from them."

Rise And Fall heeft een update gepost over het nieuwe album:

"We're in the process of writing a new record and contrary to past writing experiences where, unfortunately, the comparison with "some kind of monster" came to mind more than once, this time around the experience is actually an inspiring and really creative one.

Together with our new drummer Wim, who is now a full time member of Rise And Fall, we have written a great deal of songs and the record is slowly coming together in our heads. Early March we are doing preproduction and early May we will enter the infamous Godcity studio in Salem, MA (USA) with Kurt Ballou to record our 4th full length album."

Nieuwe EP After All

After All, uit België, heeft een nieuwe EP aangekondigd, getiteldd "Becoming the martyr". De EP is alleen verkrijgbaar via de merch stand bij de Killfest tour en de webshop van de band.

Lacuna Coil bereidt zich voor op opnames

Lacuna Coil is momenteel bezig met het opnemen van demo materiaal om binnenkort de studio in te kunnen gaan voor de opnames van een nieuw album dat later dit jaar uit zal komen. In een recent interview met Kerrang meldde de band nog dat zij meer geïnspireerd zijn door de donkere kant van het leven op dit album en dat de sound daarom donkerder en zwaarder zal zijn. De band is van plan om muzikaal gezien de lijn door te zetten die zij maakten met het vorige album "Shallow life".

Gitarist verlaat Blessthefall

Gitarist Mike Frisby heeft besloten Blessthefall te verlaten. De band liet het volgende weten:

"We are going to get right to it and let you know that Mike Frisby's chapter in the blessthefall book has come to an end. The decision was made on his behalf as he wished to start the new year off with a new life at home to pursue another lifes path. There are no harsh feelings and we wish our good friend the best of luck!

That being said, our good friend Elliott Gruenberg (formerly of Legacy) will be filling the role of blessthefall's guitarist on our upcoming Japan/Australian tour. He has been with us since January working on our set for the upcoming shows and writing with us.Hope to see you all very soon!! Keep an eye out for more updates on our upcoming record due in the Fall :)"
